May Membership Meeting – Michele Ashby, CHST

  •  May 20, 2016
     11:30 am - 1:30 pm

Our Topic: Responding to Crisis in the Workplace: What needs to be done next?
Our primary focus on workplace health and safety is to identify hazards and ensure that proper controls are in place to prevent unexpected adverse events that result in failure or loss.  We also need to be prepared to address potentially unexpected events.  A plan must be in place to provide emergency response quickly.  We then investigate events and gather facts to identify factors that caused or contributed to the event.  We use that information to make positive changes to workplace conditions.
What are we missing???  We interview witnesses, survivors, responders, and other people who had a role in the event process.  These people may feel a sense of guilt, blame or experience other post-traumatic stress.  How can we help address these lingering effects?  Our program will discuss this final factor.  Michele will share information to help us, and the other people involved, recognize and cope with stress reactions to traumatic events.
