Topic: Managing Contractors

There’s more to managing contractors than requesting bids, picking the lowest bidder, and hoping for the best. While workforce regulators have, for quite some time now, tried to make owners and general contractors take responsibility for the contractors they hire, LG&E and KU’s Contractor Health and Safety Program began years before. Jeff Gilbert will share LG&E and KU’s history and current processes, including Safety’s role in selecting contractors, training expectations, and project management.

Introducing Jeff Gilbert, CIH

Jeff started his career in health and safety in 1984 as an Indiana Industrial Hygiene Compliance Officer. He has also worked as a consultant and a corporate health and safety professional with Lockheed Martin’s Department of Energy programs and Essex Wire before joining LG&E and Kentucky Utilities in 2000. In his current role, he manages LG&E and KU’s industrial hygiene programs and supports the company’s safety compliance and benchmarking efforts.
